Free Press Unlimited Training Learning Goals

Learning Goals for StoryMaker Trainings

Free Press Unlimited has started a list of learning goals we want to achieve in the trainings. We would like to flush out this list as soon as possible, both for the training partners and for M&E purposes, so if everyone can take a look and add any competencies or activities that would be great. [Brian-This is a great list. I've noted some comments about features that don't currently function the way you explain them]

We would like participants to be able to successfully understand how to use StoryMaker based on the following learning objectives.

1. Competency demonstrated in each of the mediums: audio, photo, and video.
  • Participant should be able to record, edit and produce an audio clip.
  • Participant should be able to take, edit and produce photos.
  • Participants should be able to record, edit and produce a video clip.
2. Competency demonstrated in each of the templates: profile, feature, event, breaking news.
  • Participants should be able to produce a profile story.
  • Participants should be able to produce a feature story.
  • Participants should be able to produce an event story.
  • Participants should be able to produce a breaking news story.
3. Competency demonstrated in each of the lessons; journalism, security, audio, photography, videography.
  • Participants should successfully complete all lesson quizzes.
  • Participants should have a good understanding of each lesson.
  • Participants should demonstrate competency in the needs and uses of various third-party information safety/security apps listed in the security lessons.
4. Competency demonstrated on how to upload user produced content to third party platforms. [Brian-most third party platforms can only be reached by exporting stories and sharing them from outside the app]
  • Participants should be able to upload to YouTube, Soundcloud, Wordpress blogs and other social media platforms from StoryMaker. [Brian- Currently it is only possible, WITHIN StoryMaker, to publish to YouTube, Soundcloud, and StoryMaker.cc. (Bethel- Yes, this is what I mean. Do you think switching "from" to "within" would make it more clear?) Users may use third party apps outside of StoryMaker to share to other platforms-Flickr may be added to these platforms before beta]
5. Competency of how to operate StoryMaker overall.
  • Participants should know how to create an account.
    * Participants should know how to register their Wordpress blog if they have one? [Brian- StoryMaker is not currently set up to publish to individual WordPress instances]-
  • Participants should know how to tag their content.- [Brian- What do you mean? StoryMaker was intended to have tag functionality in the Publish screen, but this may be outside the scope at this point.] *
