Sending Images doesn't work

Description
i tried to send an Image to a friend, we both have the newes CS and are on CM.
On my side nothing happens, i press send image, choose the image and then nothing happens.
On my friends Site a Box with "Attention" appears, he has to restart to get rid of it (see screesnhot)

Just to make sure - is OTR encryption active? (i.e. yellow or green status bar at top)

I'm not sure about this. This happened two times and we both have OTR enabled so i think it was on.
We tried it yesterday evening again (with OTR 100% on), but this time he send me an image first (transfer started, but got stalled after some time). After this, when i send a picture the transfer started on my side and completed very fast, but on his side nothing happens.
I tried it again this morning (with OTR 100% on), on my side nothing happens, on his side also nothing happens.

A couple of other questions:
- After a failing file transfer, were you able to exchange OTR messages? (you can tell they are OTR by the color of the text - yellow or green is encrypted)
- If you don't mind, could you tell me what XMPP provider you are using? (in case you are running into some kind of throttling or packet size limit)

While the transfer was running, all messages failed in both directions (i asked him, he 100% didn't recieve my messages and he wrote messages to me, which i never received)
When the "Attention" error came, he had to restart, so no more messages.
This morning (when nothing happens) we could chat normaly and the OTR encryption was active

jabber.ccc.de definitely throttles data speed, so it will make it appear that the connection hung. We will do more testing to make sure the app doesn't get into a bad state in this case.
I recommend duckduckgo as an XMPP provider - dukgo.com

ok, good to know!
i have an idea, which maybe could help.
distinguish more between "Sending Files" and "Sending Images"
With "Sending Images" compress the images heavily before sending them. So users could use this feature with all servers and on cellular networks, for small stuff when quality doesn't matter.
Of course the user should be noticed about this.
With "Sending files" transfer the real file without any (lossy) compression.
