Description

I know that PGP isn't very popular with IM, but some client supports it like Pidgin (with pidgin-openpgp plugin) and PSI and PSI+.

I think that this is related: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0027.html

Also encrypted group chat could be implemented with GPG-encryption and public key infrastucture. Support for getting the public keys from the keyservers, method to verify them and use them in private and group chats.
