Hi,

I just downloaded the StoryMaker app but can't download the lessons. After choosing to download lessons, the following message appears in the screen of my samsung smartphone: 'can only download HTTP URIs: https://storymaker.cc/appdata/lessons/en.2/2.8 zip'

We tried to download the lessons on several smartphones, htc and samsung, and the same message appears. Could you tell us what is wrong and what we can do to get the lessons? Downloading the app itself is working fine.

Download Manager doesn't play nice with some phones, in this case 2.3.3 and 2.3.5, possibly also 4.0.3 but that isn't confirmed yet.

Brian, were they able to get this working? I just want to know what lesson specific issues there are so I can make sure we have all of the outstanding issues that need to be addressed.

This is partially resolved.
Download manager will NOT manage the download on some/all? Older devices running 2.3 or earlier, possibly some devices running 4.0.

User can resolve this by unchecking manager in settings. The short term feature solution to this is probably

Probably to check if the user OS is older and inform them, or if the specific error is called, then give the user a direction to change the setting.

Niels, can you provide more detail about what is happening here.

In the settings menu is "Use Download Manager" selected or unselected?

A log file would be the best situation so we can see what is happening with the interaction of the phones and the server.

Steve, why are you asking niels for feedback?

This needs to become a feature request, per my comment previously. is there another comment from niels I'm missing?

the situation is: users with older devices must uncheck "use download manager." This is NOT obvious, therefore the feature request is "make this obvious to the user if download manager must remain the method for doing this."

My opinion is that download manager has significantly improved downloading on newer devices (4.0+), so if we can make this easier for users of older devices to understand, that would be great.
