User Characterisations¶

User Type A: Aspiring Citizen Journalist¶

• uses the camera on his/her phone to take photos and shoot video that gets posted to social media sites
• mostly works independently, but sometime steams up with other local friends or contacts to share information
• posts almost excusively to Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, over email or personal blog

User Type B: Experienced Frontline Reporter¶

• currently or in the past has been on paid contract or salaried position at a "professional" news agency
• utilizes pro gear cameras or audio recorder
• uses a laptop to edit and process media, write stories
• posts primarily to a blog, that is syndicated to social media sites

User Type C: Blogger / Social Media Reporter¶

• works as a curater of third-party generated content
• uses Storify or other platform to pull together multiple streams of content into a "new" analysis or angle

User Type D: Traditional Journalist¶

• works for a traditional media outlet (newspaper, radio station or television station)
• had little or no exposure to mobile technology (smartphones)
• has little or no knowledge about social media or digital publishing
