Orweb v5 beta 1
Google interested a new way to do staged roll-out of apps through Google Play. The idea is that you do limited alpha and beta releases to user's based on Google Groups or Google+ Community membership.
I created a new "GP Beta Band" community that we can use to push beta releases to (feel free to join!)
https://plus.google.com/communities/108480576214602821006
Any member of this community can choose to "Become a Tester" for an app by visiting a link like this:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/info.guardianproject.browser
While this isn't a good solution for the F-Droid/DirectAPK crowd or people in countries where Google+ or Play is blocked, it seems like a nice solution for a certain segment of our community. We still have plenty of other ways to get to APKs directly:
- The "Files" section under various projects: https://dev.guardianproject.info/projects
- Our F-Droid repo: http://guardianproject.info/repo/
- Our signed release APKs: https://guardianproject.info/releases
- Our unsigned automated builds: https://guardianproject/builds
Ultimately, using Google Play means you can get access to our test releases without having "allow unknown sources" enabled, which is really the primary reason to use it.
