Description
Trying to run Orbot on a convertible tablet with an Intel x86 processor via the Android-x86 project, a wonderful distro that has made excellent progress. The tablet is a no-name educational tablet similar to a OLPC but not an OLPC.
The wireless works great, as does most everything else. What does not work great is Orbot, it goes yellow, struggles, then the little arms flag in defeat and the android becomes sadly grey and inert. No Tor for the x86 tablet.
As far as I know, the distro will install and run potentially on any computer, not just ones with touchscreens; it utilizes keyboard and mouse input as well as the normal tablet input schemes.
Also, it can run as a live USB or CD and when I ran Orbot in the live session it behaved the same way, so maybe a live session can help you troubleshoot and you don't have to install it. I used the USB installer from pendrivelinux, which actually has a menu entry for Android.
Subsequent tries to start Orbot after the initial "couldn't start tor process" don't even say that, the text seems to suggest everything went fine. But the dormancy of the icon and the lack of .onion link capability say otherwise.
