Description
Brian reported via email:
"when i imported the clips into a new story, trimming caused the video export to fail.
For the device i'm testing, Sony Xperia Miro"
...
"The bug is this:
Create a video story and do not trim, export works fine. If you trim the clips, media export fails. This happens on two different devices."
...
"started after build 90. Seems the issue didn't happen for Steve using build 92 on Sony xperia Miro if he didn't trim the end of the clips, I have not been able to recreate success"

This bug exists on Sony Xperia Miro and Arc S.
I am testing 2 situations using Build 91. I will write out what happens in the order that it happens.
In the first, i'm using 3 clips shot on November 8 by Steve
There is no issue if the video is exported without trimming. There is no issue if the video is exported with the middle clip trimmed. if the second and third clips are trimmed there is no problem. If all three clips are trimmed there is no problem.
I add a 4th new clip, shot in this new story, and export works fine. If I trim that 4th new clip it works fine.
In the second test I'm shooting 3 all new clips inside the story. If i don't trim the clips, everything is fine. If I trim the first clip only, the media export fails.if i trim only the second clip, the media export is fine. if i trim the second and third clips, the export fails. If I trim only the third clip, the export fails. If I trim the first, second, and third clip the export fails.
IF I then remove all trimming, the export is fine.

I can never get to the "export failed" popup on this Xperia Miro. Is the story you sent via the email one that you describe here?

No. I have not been able to send a story from the Xperia Miro I'm using. I have tried multiple times, but the export>share>gmail never seems to send. I'm trying to determine if its still queued to go out from the device. Additionally are you using the new version of the Miro from the latest Tunisia training? The device I am using is:
model: ST25a
Android: 2.3.7
Kernel: 2.6.35.7+
Build number: 6.0.B.3.188

- Subject changed from exporting trimmed video failing on Xpera Arc S to exporting trimmed video failing on Sony Xperia Model devices
(updated title to be more accurate)

interesting, the Miro we have came with 4.0 installed on it, I guess you havn't updated yours to the latest. I'm betting that its a 2.3.x issue which is why we can't reproduce it.
As for export, try just plugging it into your laptop via usb and copying the project zip file off that way.

alogrec.2013-12-04-12-24-31.log
We are testing alogrec because mx log recorder didn't send an attachment. This log was also produced at the same time from Mustafa's device, because the first attempt with MX log collector didn't attach a log to the email. In the event it recorded a more effective log, in forwarding it on also. It may also have information about a failed photo essay export.
log.txt & build.prop
this is a log created after failing to export a video on the Sony Xperia Arc S (Model LT18i). Export only fails if the video is TRIMMED at the BEGINNING. Trimming the end of the clip doesn't seem to cause a problem. Export also fails any time you export a photo essay story. This is a device which is running version 92.
Is this log helpful?
I'm really hoping that this issue is related to bug #2472 or #2610 which I believe are fixed.
I will work with Mustafa to update one of their devices to 4.0 and see if the issue still exists.
On Sony Miro devices running 4.0 we ARE experiencing an issue with export, though I'm not sure its constant. I'll be working on gathering more data about that later today.

The new build #93 seems to fix this issue on Sony Xperia Arc S (even though the Arc S is still running 2.3), which seems to be the only device that was still failing at this point. HOWEVER: 1. the error persisted after installing the new build 93 until I restarted the phone. 2. the error persisted when combining video clips recorded pre-build 93 with new clips, AND when importing only clips recorded pre-93. When shooting new clips, we have not been able to recreate the error, even with trimming, or shooting clips in positions 1, 2, and 4, with no clip in spot 3.

Unfortunately, this bug has reappeared. When you try to export a video with THREE clips, and trim ALL three it works. If you then add a voiceover, the export will fail.
If you trim only TWO clips, add a voiceover, and export, it seems to work fine. I've attached a log.

It now appears that if you trim the FIRST clip in the sequence, the export will fail. This means if you have 5 clips and trim the first clip it will fail. If you have only 4 clips in the sequence, and these are in slots 2,3,4,5 and you trim the clip in slot 2, it will still fail.
If we do not trim the first clip in the sequence, it seems everything else works fine. HOWEVER, due to the device having a slower processor (single core 1.5 ghz), users must wait for the app to be ready to proceed in order to prevent export failures. for example, if you record a voiceover and go directly to export, it will fail. However, if you exit StoryMaker, then return after a short time, export generally works.
This does NOT work with exporting videos built with old clips, ie clips that are "imported" to StoryMaker. I believe this may be related to the issue noted in bug #2472 that the "stories" folder does not exist in the primary app folder, but is generated in the external SD card.
