ChatSecure on Samsung S5 frequently freezes/hangs (contact disappears from contact list)

My friend had CS on their phone, and when communicating regularly, it works fine. If there's a break in the conversation, the contact will often drop out and not reconnect (auto reconnect is enabled). I cannot reach them from my pc or my phone (which can reach each other).

Workaround is to restart ChatSecure (occasionally the phone), then it works. I suspect that the phone goes between wifi/4g semi frequently and maybe that makes the sync break? How can I get better info to debug this?
