Description

Steve and Jesse, there seem to be some issues with photos, particularly related to photo essays or the video lessons that have a lot of photos to render.

Nathan has suggested we convert them to jpg and see if the performance improves. If not we may need to shrink them by half.

Nathan, can you give us a little info on why JPGs are better then smaller PNGs? Just want to make sure we go with the best decision if/when we do process these all over again.

Compression! PNGs are not compressed. We are talking 30k JPG instead of a 300k PNG.

Thanks Nathan. I had just reviewed this page* and it seemed they were given equal weight as far as what would be good/bad to use.

With that sizable difference in file size we should do it for that reason alone. The majority of the content in the lessons are images, so that will drastically reduce the file size.

Photos are now JPGs, graphics with transparent backgrounds remain as PNG files.
