Angle brackets (and content enclosed within) is not received

Description
I’m using Gajim, my contact is using ChatSecure for Android (installed via Google Play store).
It seems that my contact can’t see any angle brackets in my messages, and also not the content enclosed within the angle brackets.
For example, when I send this:
Did you visit <http://example.com/>?
he receives this:
Did you visit ?
And when I send this:
Do you see the following character? <
he receives this:
Do you see the following character?
However, he can send me messages with angle brackets (which I receive correctly), and he also sees the messages he sends correctly in his chatlog.
