Can't add contact

I am pretty new to this so I don't know if I am doing something wrong. I just downloaded the app and set up a new XMPP account and got my friend to do the same. But when I go to add my friend on the app, nothing happens. I click on Add Contact -> I enter my friend's username -> I click Send Invite -> ... and nothing. It goes back to a blank screen that says No conversations open. When I got my friend to try to add me, their phone said Pending Confirmation, but I didn't receive anything.

My friend is on iOS if that makes a difference.

This is important to me as I am trying to be more privacy conscious, and while my friends are not, they installed the app on my say so.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Sorry if I am being a noob here, but hey, that is what I am.

Now when you add a new contact, we open a new chat with them, where you can start chatting. We are working on this more for v15 since this is mostly a usability issue not a bug.
