Description
The current Camera app from Android 4.1+ no longer records audio via the external mic when shooting video. recording audio still works with the external mic. I have no idea why this was done, but it seems someone at Google made a decision no longer to include the ability to source audio from the external mic. When you attach an external mic, it does not record audio from that source if shooting video, however it does use that source when recording audio.

it appears this depends on the manufacturer. Samsung s3 devices still utilize the external mic via the headset connection. Sony Xperia T running 4.0 does not. Xperia U running 2.3.5 does
